Statement
I am very proud of being a long time Sigma Xi member for more than 15 years, during the years, I have enjoyed many benefits offered by the society. I am always encouraged every time when I think of the society’s mission statement, which is to honor scientific accomplishments, to encourage and to enhance the worldwide appreciation and support of original investigation in science and technology, and to foster worldwide a creative and dynamic interaction among science, technology and society. It becomes apparent that I can do more than just being a regular member. It is indeed my obligation to participate in service within the organization. When this opportunity of serving in the Comprehensive Colleges & Universities Constituency Group was announced, I quickly came to the realization that it was time for me to help.
I do not see any challenges of serving as associate director. I have played a leadership role of serving or guiding at my institution for the past ten years. I am currently serving on the university promotion and tenure committee to maintain an updated university P&T document. I was the chair of our university research committee dedicated to promote excellence in research and facilitate faculty members to obtain external funding. I also served on the university diversity committee to revise and update policies to make our university an example of an all-inclusive academic institution. I believe my experience of serving as associate director will help me contribute my time and effort effectively within Sigma Xi.
Sigma Xi and me: I joined Sigma Xi in 2004 as a Full Member. Through the years, I have guided my graduate students to understand Sigma Xi being a gateway to the real science. I have shared my copies of American Scientist with them to get updated scientific discoveries. I encourage them to participate in the Grants-in-Aid program to increase their involvement in the organization.
