We had such a great time at the 2014 Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference, that we've moved up our 2015 meeting dates so we can see you sooner!

NOTE that with these earlier dates, the deadlines to submit poster presentation abstracts and to reserve hotel rooms will be earlier too:

Mark your calendars now! We will continue to take abstracts until October 9, 2015 and if accepted will be printed in the update that will be given out with the program book.

John P. McGovern Science and Society Award

Presented for an outstanding contribution to science and society

May Berenbaum
Professor and Head of the Department of Entomology and Swanlund Chair of Entomology at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; 2014 Recipient of the National Medal of Science

May Berenbaum earned the National Medal of Science for pioneering studies on chemical coevolution and the genetic basis of insect-plant interactions, and for inspiring others about science.

Evan Ferguson Award

Presented in recognition of outstanding service to Sigma Xi and its mission

Larry Johnson
Professor of veterinary integrative biosciences at Texas A&M University.

Larry Johnson has held every officer position there is for the Texas A&M Sigma Xi Chapter and started many of its programs.

Young Investigator Award

Presented to recognize an excellent active Sigma Xi member within 10 years of his or her highest earned degree.

Melissa A. Kenney
Research assistant professor in environmental decision analysis at the University of Maryland Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center.

Melissa A. Kenney was the lead scientist on a team that developed recommendations for the U.S. Global Change Research Program. These recommendations were for a prototype set of indicators to track climate change and its impacts.

Honorary Membership

Given to top science journalists and friends of research who have made contributions to science but are not eligible for Sigma Xi membership.

Miles O'Brien
Science journalist

Miles O'Brien's reporting focuses on science, technology, and aerospace. He is a producer and correspondent for the PBS NewsHour, a producer and director for the PBS documentary series NOVA, a correspondent for the PBS documentary series Frontline, the National Science Foundation Science Nation series, and an aviation analyst for CNN.

William Procter Prize Award for Scientific Achievement

Presented for an outstanding contribution to scientific research and a demonstrated ability to communicate this research to scientists in other disciplines.

David Williams
University of Rochester's Dean for Research, School of Arts, Science, and Engineering; professor in the Institute of Optics; professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Science; professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering; director of the Center for Visual Science.

David Williams has developed highly accurate models to measure and correct the eye's aberrations, and his work answers key scientific questions within vision science and ophthalmology.
