Networking and Social Events

Sigma Xi, an international community of distinguished scientists and engineers in more than 100 countries, features an annual conference rich with opportunities for networking with colleagues, students, and professionals. Informal conversations are augmented by a number of events designed to enhance these important interactions. Connect with the community of researchers by attending these events at the 2011 meeting held at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Chapter Poster Presentations - Throughout the Meeting
Chapter representatives share information about their local activities in this ongoing poster session. For Chapter Delegates, this is a terrific way to share information about excellent chapter programs, and for students, it's a great way to learn about the local Sigma Xi chapters.

Exhibitor Booths - Throughout the Meeting
Sigma Xi partners and supporters are represented during the conference at exhibit booths located in the exhibit hall. Exhibits offer delegates and students the opportunity to interact with representatives from academia, industry, government and other research-based organizations.

Student & Exhibitor Networking Luncheon - Friday, November 11 - Details
Welcome event for students and exhibitors. Students mingle and network with exhibitors throughout the luncheon. Included with student & exhibitor registration. Tickets will be provided only to those who select the option to attend the event on their registration form.

Walston Chubb Innovation Award Luncheon & Lecture - Friday, November 11 - Details
Attendees view the award presentation and listen to the award winner's lecture. Included with registration. Tickets will be provided only to those who select the option to attend the event on their registration form.

Professional Research Poster Presentations - Throughout the Meeting
In addition to the Student Research presentations, scientific posters by attendees will be on display throughout the meeting. A designated session for Q&A with the professional presenters on their research will be held on Friday afternoon. The professional poster presentations offer excellent opportunities for discourse and networking among students and senior researchers.

William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement Award and Lecture - Friday, November 11
The Procter Prize Award will be presented followed by the award winner's lecture.

Preliminary Judging - Friday, November 11
Judges have the opportunity to preview posters in advance of the student presentations on Saturday.

Sigma Xi Night Cap - Friday, November 11 - Details
After enjoying dinner, join other attendees at the Sigma Xi Night Cap for relaxing conversation, music, light desserts and a cash bar. The Sigma Xi Night Cap offers an opportunity to network with others in a relaxing setting.

Orientation & Power-up Breakfast - Saturday, November 12 - Details
Students, Exhibitors and Judges prepare for the student poster competition by powering up with a light continental breakfast in the Exhibit Hall. Students and Judges enjoy breakfast while browsing student and professional research posters and exhibit booths. The Judge orientation will also be conducted. The Student Raffle drawing will be held. Included with student, exhibitor and judge registration.

Young Investigator Award Luncheon and Lecture - Saturday, November 12 - Details
The award presentation and lecture will follow the luncheon. Included with registration. Tickets will be provided only to those who select the option to attend the event on their registration form.

John P. McGovern Science and Society Award Lecture & Student Award Presentations - Saturday, November 12
The McGovern award winner lecture will be followed by the presentation of the Student Research Conference Awards.

Sigma Xi Banquet - Saturday, November 12 - Details
The Saturday evening banquet is the capstone of an exciting conference featuring the induction of the 2011 Honorary Member and recognition of Bugliarello Prize recipient. Enjoy an evening of fine dining, conversation, music, dancing, and a cash bar. Ticket required for all attendees.
