How to Register:
If you have not yet registered, you need to register. To register for the database, follow either the 'volunteer' or 'teacher/educator' links, and fill in the form you see.
What do teachers need to do to use the database?
For teachers, it is very important that you give us your school name, your phone number and a reference name and phone number at your school. To ensure people signing up as teachers are, in fact, teachers, we call the school and verify their employment after they request an account.
If you want to be both a teacher and a volunteer:
This is tricky. You will need to register twice in order to counted as both. However, you will need to use two different email addresses when you register, as our system uses your email address as your login name. If you do not have a second email address, you could look at getting a free, web-based account from a provider such as Hotmail, HotPOP, or Yahoo. You could also check with your home internet provider, or your employer to find out if you can get a second address.
Why do you need a password?
You choose your own password upon registration so that you can then access your profile information and make changes at any time. For example, you can remove your listing or modify it at any time. You can also indicate temporary unavailability, a feature that might be useful during a period of heavy work commitment or travel.
Registered? Now What?
If you have already registered, there are some nice features you can use.
Partners in Educations:
You can edit your profile, updating when you are available, what you would like to volunteer to do, or to put yourself on hiatus. For example if you will be on sabbatical for the months of May through August, it would be good to know you are not available then.
Teachers:
You have access to search the database for volunteers in your area who can help you. For example, to find someone who could help with chemistry, you can enter 'chemistry' in the search box. Alternatively, you can search for 'chem' and the database will return all words containing with 'chem', including chemistry & chemical.
You can also search for a specific volunteer, if you know their name, or any part of their name (ie, 'an' will return anyone named 'Andy', 'Anne', 'Janice', etc).
Both a Teacher and a Partners in Education?
If you are double-registered as a teacher and a volunteer, you can sign in to the system twice, using two different browsers (such as Opera, Mozilla, Firefox, Internet Explorer), which would allow you to post to the bulletin board as both users. That could get quite unwieldy, so it would be better to sign in as the 'normal you' more, and only log in as the 'other you' when necessary.
Bulletin Board and Help:
Please visit the Partners in Education Database Bulletin Board by clicking on the 'Partners in Education Database Bulletin Board' link once you login. This will open a separate window with the bulletin board. If you are not familiar with using online bulletin boards and forums, please start by going through the 'Bulletin Board Help and How-To' section. It covers the basics of using our bulletin board, and you should be able to use it after a few minutes of reading the help.
