Statement

Dr. Kowtha has been mentored on MAL (Membership-at-Large) over the years by Evan Ferguson, James Baur and David Moran while being an Associate Director. He has volunteered in other roles at Sigma Xi both at the National level and locally in the DC area. Dr. Kowtha is invested in constructing a bright future for Sigma Xi in which young minds are attracted to research through increased student-member partnerships. Under his leadership at the NRL Edison chapter of Sigma Xi, the research of young professionals gained greater visibility by the Sigma Xi Young Scientist Award, brightening their future careers. Through public-private partnerships with local societies and academies, Dr. Kowtha will enable Sigma Xi to assume a greater role in incentivizing and recognizing young research excellence.  Some ideas such as the new peer reviewed journal are in play but a concerted effort with mentoring as a central tenet will enable young minds in the ranks will revitalize Sigma Xi.
