Statement

Sigma Xi is an organization near and dear to my heart because of its commitment to fostering and celebrating scientific collaboration, cooperation, integrity, community engagement and education. I was inducted into Sigma Xi in spring 2010.  Since becoming a member, I have served the Society on both local and national levels: as a member of our chapter’s Membership and Qualifications Committee, and as a volunteer for both the Society’s Grants-in-Aid of Research review panel and the Committee on Qualifications and Membership. In spring 2017, I was elected president of the Barry University Chapter of Sigma Xi. Having served in these capacities, I have an even deeper appreciation for the work and the mission of the Society. As such, I also recognize that in order for these principles to be upheld, the strength of the leadership is of paramount importance. It would therefore be an honor for me to serve on the Committee on Nominations thereby playing an integral role in protecting the legacy of the Society—that of celebrating and creating awareness of the value of research endeavors and the scientific enterprise—and in helping to shape its future.
