Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society will host a Google Hangout on February 26 at 2 p.m. EST to answer questions from students applying for its research grants.

The Society's Grants-in-Aid of Research program has awarded grants for student research since 1922. Undergraduate and graduate students may apply. Grants of up to $1,000 are available. Additionally, designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $2,500 for vision-related research and $5,000 for astronomy research. The next application deadline is March 15, 2015.

Speakers during the Google Hangout will be Peter Harries, chair of Sigma Xi's Grants-in-Aid of Research Committee, and Emma Perry, member and former chair of the committee. This committee reviews the grant applications and selects which applicants will be awarded research funds. Kevin Bowen, program manager, for Grants-in-Aid of Research, will also be on the hangout to answer questions about the application.

In the most recent grant cycle, the Grants-in-Aid of Research program awarded $117,066 to 184 students. The Society received 1,115 applications.
