2001-2002 Chapter Outstanding Program Awards

Program Awards are awarded to chapters that have organized or hosted a single, outstanding program during the past year. Below are highlights from the chapters.

The Alaska Chapter supported workshops and discussions on the critical issue of the safety of arctic food webs.

The Central Arkansas Chapter sponsored two high school competitions - the Eighth Annual Science-in-Society Debate and the Central Arkansas Brain Bee, titled "The Weakest Synapse."

The University of Florida Chapter co-sponsored the Alachua County Science and Engineering Fair, in which members interact as judges with over 300 entrants from grades 6-12.

The University of Illinois at Chicago Chapter sponsored the first ever Sigma Xi month which tied together various research events on campus under the Sigma Xi banner.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology Chapter organized a Postdoctoral Poster Presentation that allowed postdocs and foreign guest researchers an opportunity to share their research projects.

The Washington College Chapter presented a forum, "Barriers to Opportunities for Women in Science" in conjunction with a Women in Science Symposium.
