Becoming a Lecturer

Louisville Audience

The Distinguished Lectureship Program connects outstanding speakers at the leading edge of science and engineering with Sigma Xi chapters across North America and abroad. The Committee on Lectureships is tasked with maintaining a balanced college of speakers. Each year, the committee selects lecturers who will begin their two-year tenure on the first of July of the following year.

Nominations

The committee does entertain external and self-nominations. Nomination materials are due February 15 and should include the following:

  • Curriculum vitae that includes speaking engagements

  • Potential titles for lectures that can be adapted to a variety of audiences, from specialized to general to public

  • Links to videos of lectures, presentations, or talks ranging from the academic to general audiences (if possible)
  • Two to three letters of reference from individuals who have heard the nominee speak

    • References do not have to be from Sigma Xi members, but some preference is given to member recommendations

Nomination materials should be sent to lectureships@sigmaxi.org

Sponsoring a Lectureship

Sponsoring a Sigma Xi Distinguished Lectureship is an excellent way for an organization to reach thousands of career researchers and students across North America and abroad. Sponsoring Organizations select speakers for a one-year term. The cost of sponsorship is low, and the rewards are great for organizations interested in promoting science and engineering. The following organizations currently sponsor a Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer:

  • American Meteorological Society
