Report of the Committee on Nominations
for the Year ending June 30, 2006
It is the duty of the Committee on Nominations to present to the Assembly of Delegates nominees for officers to be elected. For committee year November 5, 2005 to November 6, 2006, the committee was charged with selecting at least two nominees for the office of President to be placed before the November 2006 Assembly.
The committee, under the leadership of C. Clifton Chancey, met by teleconference on February 24, 2006 to review procedures for obtaining nominees, discuss how a ranked slate of nominees will be determined, and set a date for a second conference call. Eleven nominations were submitted by committee members. Members of the committee received a listing of the nominees and respective nominator(s), summary biographical and career information, and Sigma Xi participation at the local, regional, national, and international level. On April 20, 2006 the committee met by conference call to review and discuss the qualifications of each nominee. Following the conference call iterative weighted electronic balloting took place to establish a ranked slate of nominees.
From the list of outstanding nominees, Dr. Henry Petroski and Dr. Ann H. Williams were selected and agreed to serve as candidates for election to the office of President. The election will be held at the Society's November 2006 Annual Meeting in Detroit, Michigan. The individual elected will serve one year each as President-elect (beginning July 1, 2007), President (beginning July 1, 2008), and Immediate Past President (beginning July 1, 2009).
The chair expresses appreciation to each committee member for superb support and dedicated service.
