Antonio Pita received a B.E.S. degree from Johns Hopkins University and M.S. & Ph.D. degrees from the University of Iowa. His field of research is solid and fluid mechanics. He has been both a full- and part-time professor at the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey, where he won two research and three teaching awards. He has served as manager of professional training and scientific development and general director of Vitro's Corporate R&D Organization: Vitro Tec; director of technology for Vitro's Chemicals, Fibers & Mining Division; director of technological innovation at Vitro's Corporate Headquarters and director of research and development at Vitro's Swiss R&D Office. He is currently university liaison for Cemex's Swiss R&D Center and director of the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey Swiss Office of International Relations. Pita has published 12 papers in solid and fluid mechanics; holds three patents in glass fusion; and developed and implemented a master's program within Vitro in mechanical engineering design. He is a founding member and past president of the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey Chapter of Sigma Xi and also a founding member of the Mexican National Academy of Engineers. He is a member of the European Association of Technological Information for Innovation and the Mexican Association for Applied Research and Technological Development.
