Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1992-93
George Bugliarello is the chancellor and former president (1973-94) of Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y. An engineer and educator whose background ranges from biomedical engineering to fluid mechanics, to computer languages and socio-technology, he holds a doctorate in engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has received several honorary degrees. He is the U.S. member of the Science for Stability Steering Group of the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO, and chairs the Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment of the National Research Council. His international experience includes consultantships abroad for UNESCO and OECD and assignments as a specialist for the State Department in Venezuela and Central Africa. A member of the National Academy of Engineering and Founding Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, Dr. Bugliarello served as president of Sigma Xi in 1992-93.
