Gaining Knowledge and Skills Needed for Scientific Communication and Collaboration

June 9 - 12, 2003
Conference Hall of the I. Beritashvili Institute
Georgian Academy of Science
14 Gotua str., 380060 Tbilisi

More than 100 people participated in the four-day event, which was covered extensively in the Georgian newspapers and on radio and television. This meeting marked an historic collaboration between Georgian Technical University and the Georgian Academy of Science, which had not previously had much contact. Scientists from remote regions of Georgia who feel very isolated were thrilled not only to be able to participate, but also to be included in the newly-established network of Georgian scientists, Sigma Xi Georgia. Additional important outcomes from this meeting include the further dissemination of information, both by means of CDs which contained several of the training presentations and by additional meetings and workshops in Kutaisi (Georgia), Yerevan (Armenia), and elsewhere. At least three new international collaborations have formed as a result of this training workshop.
