Science Prize CompetitionSigma Xi
The Scientific Research Society
The University of Chicago Chapter
SCIENCE PRIZE COMPETITION
The Chapter will award prizes of up to $300 for the best original papers submitted by college students.
REGULATIONS:
- Papers must be especially written for this competition. Please feel free to use data from the paper that you might submit for Science Honors in the College, but do not submit an identical paper for this competition. You may, however, submit the same paper for the John Crerar Foundation Science Writing Prize. It is our expectation that you will submit a paper that can be understood by anyone with a science background who is not in your field of study. It should be written in clear, concise English. Please, NO technical jargon. Your paper should present your research to a general scientific audience without being overly technical; a skill that will serve you well in the future. You should begin by providing a general background; explain why the work is worth doing, how you gathered the data and how you analyzed it. End with your conclusions.
- Each paper must be submitted in duplicate, accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a faculty research sponsor and must have cover sheet including your current student address, phone number and e-mail address.
- Papers must be submitted by 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2005, to Mert Vincent, Surgery Brain Research Institutes, 5812 S. Ellis Ave., Room EB02, 773-702-5425.
