Tampa Bay Chapter of Sigma Xi

The Tampa Bay Chapter of Sigma Xi was re-named as part of a renewal/expansion in 2003 after starting out as "Sigma Xi Club at the University of South Florida" nearly 4 decades ago. The earliest data on the initial formation of the chapter comes from a memorandum from Dr. Guy Forman (Physics, deceased), acting President in 1967- 68. The first full list of officers available in the "USF Sigma Xi Club" records is from that same year. Official granting of Chapter status occurred in a letter dated April 25, 1979 from the Sigma Xi National Office to Dr. John Lawrence, then President of the Club. The records for each academic year starting in 1968-69 and the official charter has been turned over to the USF Library, Special Collections for archiving. There are many interesting memos included in the past records as well as an impressive series of programs that have been offered by our Tampa Bay Chapter.
