BYLAW III
ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP
SECTION 1.IT IS THE POLICY OF
THE CHAPTER TO CONSIDER FOR ELECTION TO MEMBER:
(a)Graduate
students at the University who have already attained the Master's degree with a
written thesis and who have indicated exceptional promise in research.The students must have shown noteworthy
ability in investigation in some branch of pure or applied science by having
written a dissertation, by being near completion of doctoral requirements, or
by other demonstration of ability to pursue independent research.
(b)Any faculty
member or graduate of the University or of an institution having no chapter,
who has shown noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in
science.Noteworthy achievement may be
considered to be publication in established scientific journals of the results
of independent scientific investigation.Publications should show evidence of the nominee's continued interest in, and active conduct of, research at the time of
nomination.
(c)Associates
who meet the above requirements should be considered for promotion to Member.
SECTION 2.IT IS THE POLICY OF
THE CHAPTER TO CONSIDER FOR ELECTION TO ASSOCIATE:
Students
of this University who have shown marked excellence in
some field of science and who, in their research, have shown marked indication
of their ability to pursue independent scientific investigation and who have
the potential for promotion to Member.Students who have completed or who are nearing completion of the M.S.
degree with a written thesis should be considered for nomination to Associate. [Students completing the B.S. degree with excellent
research accomplishment should be considered for nomination to Associate.]
