Berkeley Sigma Xi

Welcome to the University of California, Berkeley Chapter of Sigma Xi! The Berkeley chapter is made up of over 700 members who range from undergraduate students beginning their scientific careers to professional scientists living in the area. The main objective of the Berkeley Sigma Xi chapter is to encourage and reward scientific research in our community. Our two flagship programs are Berkeley Grants-in-Aid-of-Research (GIARs) and UC LEADS. Although both of these efforts are directed primarily at undergraduate and graduate students on campus, we are always looking for new ways to work with local school teachers, postdoctoral researchers, and professional scientists. Your feedback as members is always appreciated, and suggestions for new programs and activities are always welcome!

UC Berkeley Sigma Xi is honored to receive recognition at the 2006 Annual Meeting for our Diversity Efforts. Our Chapter recognizes the talents and contributions of our members and appreciates our connections in our diversity ecosystem. In particular we value our relationship with the UC LEADS Research Program and the NSF LS California Alliance for Minority Participation in the Sciences. We encourage collaboration and Scientific discussion. Below are a few of our activity highlights: *Speed Mentoring Seminars *Co-sponsor local undergraduate research conferences *Professional development workshops --"mini" grant writing --Research Presentations Do's and Don'ts --How to Write a Sigma Xi Mini Grant --Designing Professional Research Posters *Undergraduate Poster session during our annual spring chapter dinner *Undergraduate membership drive *We also encourage our undergraduate members to attend and compete with a research poster at National Annual Meeting
