Science Cafes, Seattle Science Lecture Series, and more!!
The UW Chapter has been a co-sponsor with several other organizations that offer events of mutual interest to our chapter's mission. Read below about several of these.
Science on Tap: This is a local, grass-roots group that caught on to the café concept early. One of the organizers is a Sigma Xi member, and we occasionally plan events together! They meet on the last Monday of every month, 7-9 PM at the Ravenna Third Place Books (corner of 20th Ave NE and NE 65th St.), free admission, free parking. A wide range of topics tends to draw a crowd of 20-50 people and makes for lively discussion. The bookstore has a pub, coffee bar and sandwich shop. For more information and details about upcoming speakers, you can visit: http://www.scienceontap.org
Seattle Science Lecture Series: These events are coordinated through University Bookstore and are sponsored by our chapter along with Town Hall Seattle, Pacific Science Center, UW, and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Well-known local and international researchers and authors give presentations that have drawn large audiences.
Most events take place at Town Hall or at the Pacific Science Center. Some of these events are free, but most charge a fee of $5.00 at the door. No reservations required. Doors open at 6:30 PM, event starts at 7PM and ends by 9PM. Details about current lectures can be found through the 'Events' link at the left.
