The Science Matters Lecture Series was created in 2010 to provide a forum to highlight the scientific achievements of prominent researchers that recently joined Thomas Jefferson University. The Series is jointly sponsored by Thomas Jefferson University Chapter of Sigma Xi, Department of Pathology, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Jefferson Medical College, and Jefferson College of Graduate Studies.

The Science Matters Lecturer is selected each year by the Officers of the Thomas Jefferson University Chapter of Sigma Xi. The lectures are in the realm of biomedical sciences and are oriented especially towards inter-disciplinary research.

The 2012 Science Matters Lecture was delivered by Lucia Languino, Ph.D., Professor of Cancer Biology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia PA.
