SCIENCE FAIR

SETAC OVC jointly sponsored three science fair awards with Sigma Xi at this spring’s Annual UC Science & Engineering Expo on March 13, 2010 at the University of Cincinnati for outstanding environmental projects. The fair was a regional fair and open to grades 7-12 in a five-county area in Southwestern Ohio who had scored “superior” at their school science fair. Judges from the chapter included Barb Butler and Dan Petersen; an additional EPA employee, Keith Kelty, joined in assisting with judging the over 25 presentations in Environmental Science to choose our top three winners. The Cincinnati Federal Environmental Chapter of Sigma Xi and the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry jointly contributed $175 in prize money ($100, $50, and $25).

  • First prize: Erica How
  • Second prize: Sohum Talreja
  • Third prize: Scott Cupito and Steven Schmidt for a team project

Our award winners also did well with other judges. Steven Schmidt and Scott Cupito also won $50 from AWWA; Erica How won $65 from SWOWEA and $150 from the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services; and Sohum Talreja won $100 from the Alliance of Chemical Safety. These were truly great projects.
