Events held in FY 2011MEETINGS
- Conrad P. Straub Memorial Dinner/Lecture: Unfortunately, this year’s lecture was cancelled due to logistical constraints and snowy/icy weather. We hope to hold this meeting in the 2012 FY [December 2011].
Aaron Rosen Memorial Coffee/Lecture: This lecture was held on February 23, 2011 at the AWBERC building and was open to all chapter members and to interested employees of EPA and NIOSH. The invited speaker, chapter member Mary Schubauer-Berigan, a researcher at the CDC/NIOSH in Cincinnati, presented a discussion entitled: "Is it time to conduct epidemiology studies of the engineered carbonaceous nanomaterials workforce?” Her talk was well received and prompted much discussion during the question/answer period following the talk as well as over lunch. SCIENCE FAIR
SETAC OVC jointly sponsored three science fair awards with Sigma Xi at this spring’s Annual UC Science & Engineering Expo on March 12, 2011 at the University of Cincinnati for outstanding environmental projects. The fair is an annual regional fair and open to grades 6-12 in a five-county area in Southwestern Ohio who score “superior” at their school science fairs. Judges from the chapter included Barb Butler, Doug Grosse, Dan Petersen, Joe Schubauer-Berigan, Mary Schubauer-Berigan, and Michelle Simon. Three top presentations were chosen from among over 25 in the Environmental Science & Engineering category. In addition to the $75 from SETAC OVC and $100 from the chapter, Mary and Joe donated $25. The awards were distributed as two $75 awards and one $50 award.

Earth Week Sponsored Speaker
This year EPA did not have sponsored speakers during Earth Week.
Post-Doc Social Hour
This year’s social was held October 7th, 2010 at Christies / Lenhardt’s. Five postdoctoral researchers and 10 chapter members participated. Two of the postdoctoral researchers expressed interest in society membership and will follow up with current chapter members.
