Chapter Meeting - October 29, 1998
The October 29th Meeting was held at the Cincinnati Observatory Center. Members assembled at the Mitchel Observatory building (above, left photo) at 7:00 pm. A brief Chapter meeting was held to introduce the newest member of our Chapter, Kathleen Broomall. Our host, Basil Rowe, then presented the group with an interesting introduction to the Observatory Center (above, center). We were not expecting to be able to view the skies with the telescope as the day had been quite overcast throughout the daylight hours. However, not long after our lecture/presentation had begun, our host was informed that there was a break in the clouds. Our lecture was cut short and we were shown into the telescope viewing room. (see above, right and below, right) The skies had indeed cleared and each of the members was individually able to view Jupiter, the Moon, and Saturn. As the last member completed his viewing, the clouds began to reappear.
We were then shown the rest of the Mitchel Facility and taken to the adjacent building. We were shown the larger telescope (above, left) now residing in that building but did not view with it. As the evening drew to a close, a fine night of celestial viewing had been experienced by all. The members thanked their lucky stars for the break in the weather, and the evening's meeting was concluded. The attending members sincerely appreciated the efforts of Basil Rowe and his colleagues to make the evening at the Observatory Center so enjoyable.
