Dr. Armitage graduated from Rice University, received her MD from the UT Medical School at Houston, and her PhD from the UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Her research interest is pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Current studies in her lab include investigations of M. tuberculosis virulance factors and correlates of the bacteria behavior with human host response.
