Teacher of Year in Science and Mathematics

The Sigma Xi University of Central Missouri chapter is seeking nominations for high school teachers to be awarded recognition for dedication to the teaching of science or mathematics and the encouragement of research. Sigma Xi is particularly interested in recognizing teachers who have encouraged research by their students. There will be two awards: one for a teacher with less than ten years of experience, and one for a teacher with ten or more years of experience. The awards include a $50 cash award and a certificate of recognition to be presented at the Central Chapter Spring Banquet and Award Ceremony.

Nominations may be initiated by any interested person including, but not limited to, an educator, student, or parent. The nominator must submit his/her name and address, as well as the name, school name, and address of the nominee and a short justification. The Sigma Xi Awards Committee will contact the nominator and those identified as supporters of the nomination to request information attesting to the nominee's dedication to the teaching of science or mathematics and the encouragement of research. Teachers are especially encouraged to nominate other teachers who they think are deserving of this award. A reply letter listing the information mentioned above must be sent no later than Friday, April 4, 2008 to:

The science or mathematics teacher selected for the award, as well as the nominator and nominee's principal and superintendent, will be notified by the Central Sigma Xi Chapter as soon as possible after the selection is made.
