Women in Science: Tarring a Balance and Measuring Productivity
When: Thursday, October 13th, 2011, Reception @ 12:00 m
Where: Faraday West 227
This talk will briefly examine a little of the rich history of women in science but the emphasis will be on scientific productivity. How do we measure what is productive science and how do women fair? Data presented are from a recent study on journal publications in Geography (physical and social science) and a faculty survey from 2011 at NIU.
Dr. Rigg’s research interests are in Biogeography, with particular emphasis on the population and regeneration dynamics of tree populations, the effects of disturbance on vegetation communities, and plant/soil relationships. Rigg has worked in Belize, Australia, New Caledonia, Africa and North America. Current research: The population dynamics of the boreal forest/deciduous forest boundary in Lake Superior (Ontario, Canada) and potential species range shifts associated with climate change (NSF funded project).
