History of the VCU Chapter

Historical Overview of the VCU Chapter:

The VCU Chapter was established in 1963, the year for which our first annual report is on record in the national office. Chapter activities lapsed in 2006, when no annual report was filed by either President Charles Oneal or Vice President Richard Brandt. In January of 2011, after approximately six years of inactivity, current VCU Chapter President Allan Mills responded to a call from the national office for reactivation of the Chapter. In November of 2011, the national office informed our chapter that it had fulfilled the requirements for reactivation.

Reactivation requirements included recruiting one or more new members, establishing a new slate of officers, and attendance by one or more chapter members at the national Fall meeting. Dr. Mills attended the November 11-13, 2011 Annual Meeting of Sigma Xi in Raleigh, North Carolina - at his own personal expense. He then participated in the Fall 2012 "On-Line" Virtual Annual Meeting, and was also registered to attend the June 2013 International meeting of Sigma Xi in Lausanne, Switzerland - prior to its cancellation for an insufficient number of registrants.

The slate of officers for our 2011 reactivated chapter was as follows:

Dr. Allan Mills, President
Dr. Edmund Acevedo, Vice President and Treasurer

In 2012, Ms. Samantha Marquez was added as Secretary. Although still in High School, she became a well-qualified full member of the VCU Chapter that year.
