Invitation for New Member Applications to Sigma XiIf you are not a member of Sigma Xi and meet the requirements, we invite you to apply for membership. Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society was founded in 1886. It is a national nonprofit honorary society of approximately 60,000 scientists and engineers who were selected to the Society because of their achievements or potential for research contributions. Membership in Sigma Xi is a way to be recognized for scientific achievement, and to keep informed on a broad range of science and technology.
Sigma Xi explores critical issues in science and technology, sponsors a variety of programs that support science and engineering education. Sigma Xi publishes the American Scientist for members and other subscribers, a bi-monthly, broad-based science magazine with articles written by leading scientists. As a member, you may also receive the weekly email publication, Science in the News. This is a brief timely description of the most important discoveries of the week from all fields, with links to the complete stories on these discoveries.
New members must be nominated by two active dues-paid full members of Sigma Xi. New member applicants may qualify for "full membership" either full membership or "associate membership."
Full Membership:
Applicants qualify for full membership if they can demonstrate "noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in a field of pure or applied science or engineering." Evidence for this is being primary author on two or more articles published in a refereed journal or refereed monographs and/or patents.
Associate Membership:
"Associate membership is offered to encourage young investigators with promise to continue careers in research." Associate members can be promoted to full membership by submitting a current CV containing evidence of achieving the requirements for full membership listed above.
Annual Dues:
Regular full members and associate members are required to pay annual dues of $95. Student member dues are only $25.
New members are also required to pay a small application fee.
