At the 2005 national meeting of Sigma Xi in Seattle Dr. Cristina Clements, who at that time was a student in the CUNY - PhD program in Biochemistry working with Dr. Manfred Philipp of Lehman College's Chemistry Department, presented her work entitled "Structure-Based Design & Structure-Activity Relationships of D-Phe-Pro-D-Arg-P1'-CONH2 Tetrapeptides Inhibitors of Thrombin."

Her presentation was so well received that she won the Best Student Presentation Award in the field of Biochemistry.
