The Sigma Xi Kentucky Compendium of Scientific Research
The Louisville Chapter of Sigma Xi is pleased to announce a new initiative and benefit of membership, one whose objective to is publicize the scientific research undertaken by members of Kentucky chapters of Sigma Xi (and specifically to gain publicity for that research within Kentucky and surrounding areas):
This year the Louisville chapter will publish, both electronically and in print,
“The Sigma Xi Kentucky Compendium of Scientific Research”.
This project will be shared within the Sigma Xi membership and with the local media, in hopes of promoting public knowledge of science in Kentucky and surrounding areas. We hope that you will contribute to this publication.
The Compendium will consist of (a) “General-Interest Summary Articles” of peer-reviewed papers recently published by Sigma Xi members in Kentucky chapters (or their students or close associates), and (b) “Abstracts” of unpublished work-in-progress by those members (or their students or close associates).
What is a “General-Interest Summary Article”? It is a distillation of a published paper, for an audience of Sigma Xi members and others with comparable scientific literacy. Perhaps a Sigma Xi member has published a paper in Nature recently; perhaps he or she has published in the Journal of the Kentucky Academy of Science. In either case, the Summary Article is a distillation of that paper down to a compact length — while making it as accessible as possible for an audience of Sigma Xi members and others with others with comparable scientific literacy.
What is an Abstract? It is an ordinary abstract for research that is not yet published, for an audience of Sigma Xi members and others with comparable scientific literacy.
This material will be published here at first, and later, published in print form and available for purchase. The cost of the printed volumes is yet to be determined.
