The University of Rhode Island Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society resolves to initiate a “Sigma Xi Student Member Scientific Travel Fund” starting in the Academic Year 2009-2010, and develop supporting policy statements. The purpose of this fund would be to subsidize travel of student members to give presentations of their work at conferences appropriate to their field of study. The Executive Committee will develop such a fund based on the following guiding principles.

 

1.      That the fund be separate from the operating monies of the chapter.

 

2.      That the fund will qualify for tax-deductible donations by being administered by the URI Foundation.

 

3.      That the monies collected by the fund each year will be paid-out in the subsequent year (excepting the case of substantial one-time donations). Distribution of travel funds will be determined by a "Student Travel Committee" established by the Executive Committee".
