2010 Sigma Xi Annual Meeting & International Research Conference

The 2010 Annual Meeting and International Research Conference will bring together students, professional scientists and Sigma Xi members from North America and abroad. The event features a Research Conference with presentations in all fields of science and engineering, a Criticial Issues Forum on Food Safety and Security, Lectures by Award Winning Speakers and Society Governance at the 111th Annual Meeting.

  • Food Safety and Security Symposium will provide a forum for experts and key players from academe, industry and government to begin a dialogue that will ultimately inform, as well as raise the awareness of, policymakers and the general public about the implications and critical importance of these issues. Approved by ARPAS for 12 CEU hours!

  • International Research Conference
    Student Research Conference showcases some of the premier student research in the world, and connects senior researchers with students. Students present research to be evaluated by professional researchers in all fields of Science and Engineering.

    Professional Research Poster Presentations allow career scientists and engineers to share their research with colleagues and students through poster presentations.

  • Society Governance
    General Assemblies involve all delegates in discussions and conduct voting on matters of Society business.

    Regional and Constituency Caucuses provide essential time for chapter delegates to discuss issues impacting the research enterprise.

  • Society Award Winners will present prize lectures and receive their awards at the 2010 Annual Meeting. Sigma Xi's prestigious annual awards recognize excellence in research and communication.

    Student Concept Papers that present creative ideas addressing the critical issue of food security in Haiti are being sought for a competition organized by Food Safety and Security Symposium sponsor PHS Group, Inc., a management and technology firm based in Silver Spring, Maryland. The authors of the top three papers will receive monetary prizes..

    White Papers on food security and sustainability are also being sought by Sigma Xi and PHS Group, Inc. The author(s) of the most compelling paper will be offered the opportunity to be paid consultants in the implementation of a pilot program that will address the critical issue of food security in Hispaniola and the Caribbean Basin Countries.

  • 2010 Exhibitors are able to reach hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students, from North America and abroad. These students conduct research in all fields of science and engineering and typically more than 40% of the students are from underrepresented groups.

  • Additional Activities include informal roundtables, poster presentations, organized group dining and catered receptions—all of which offer opportunities for collegial exchange as researchers, leaders and colleagues.
