Candidate's Statement: I have been a member of Sigma Xi for 15 years. I have had the honor of being Associate Director of the Northeast Region for the last 5 years, it has been both a rewarding and a beneficial experience. The Northeast Region is a great section that could be even better. Our region is the largest and encompasses not only the Northeast portion of the United States but also Canada and Eastern Europe. One of my duties as Director of the region is to be the liaison among the Chapters and the Board of Directors. Being Associate Director for the past 5 years has given me many excellent experiences that I feel make me a good candidate for this position. I attended a meeting of the Board of Directors last spring where I learned many of the responsibilities of the Director. We need to continue to endorse the chapters in our region with all their endeavors. As Director, I intend to further increase the communication among the chapters of the Region beyond the annual meeting in November through electronic newsletters. There are several chapters because of their geographical locations which might be able to jointly host some activities therefore, increasing the presence of Sigma Xi in their region. Currently, one of the members of our region has organized a great regional conference that needs to be communicated to all the members of the society. These sorts of endeavors will greatly increase the membership and identity of Sigma Xi.
