Student Expenses

A student participant at the Sigma Xi Student Research Conference should anticipate the following expenses:

1. Registration Rates: $175 for Sigma Xi Active (dues-paid) Members or $200 for Non-members or Lapsed Members. Applies to Presenting or Non-presenting students.
2. Airfare, ground transportation or other travel costs - varies.
3. Hotel accommodations at the conference hotel, the Sheraton Imperial Hotel - Hotel Room Rate: $109 + tax. Room rates are subject to any applicable taxes that are in effect at the time of check-in. The group rate expires with the reservation deadline.
4. Sigma Xi is providing the following meals during the conference for each paid registrant: Friday Networking Lunch, Friday Chubb Dinner, Saturday Power-up Breakfast, Saturday Young Investigator Lunch and Saturday Procter Prize & Awards Banquet. Other meals are at the expense of the participant.

Solutions to Managing Travel and Lodging Costs

1. Make travel reservations as early as possible to reduce airfare costs.
2. Seek travel money from your department or institution. Many institutions have offices of undergraduate research. Information found on the Sigma Xi website related to the Student Conference is helpful in supporting a case for institutional financial assistance.
3. Seek travel money from other sources, including local Sigma Xi Chapters.
4. Room Sharing: If you would like information on sharing a hotel room, please e-mail meeting@sigmaxi.org or call 800-243-6534 or 919-549-4691. Please provide the dates of your check-in/check-out at the hotel. Sigma Xi will maintain a list of registrants interested in sharing a room at the conference hotel with another registrant to help minimize costs. While Sigma Xi will not make the actual room assignments or reservations, it will facilitate contact between interested parties.

Sigma Xi is unable to offer student financial assistance at this time.
