Additional Comments: We live in a global society where interactions based on common interests and needs, rather than only national affiliations, are becoming ever more important. World trade, environ- mental and health issues, access to information, changing roles of basic and applied research, morality and ethics and many, many other topics are of regional but also of global concern.

I am convinced of Sigma Xi importance for our society, not just in North America but around the world. Sigma Xi is one of the few organizations where developments and issues in our scientific community and indeed the society at large can be adequately addressed as they usually are: complex and interdisciplinary. Through Sigma Xi membership we should be able to learn, discuss and when necessary have an impact on important topics, being it at local, regional (including national) or international level.

If elected, I will work towards increasing the international membership of Sigma Xi in order to add new perspectives on the developments and issues facing us today.
