Candidate's Statement: As an active participant in local Sigma Xi activities I have appreciated the importance of the members of the Research Society contributions to encourage students to pursue careers in science and engineering. To insure growth of the society and to develop new approaches to solving problems, it is essential that younger members become active participants in the research society. If elected as the North Central Regional representative to the Sigma Xi Committee on Nominations I will confer with members of the region to nominate individuals with innovative approaches in these areas.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Sigma Xi activities include twelve years on the University of Michigan. Chapter's Council and served seven years in officer positions. Other university activities included participation in faculty governance as a Medical School representative, served on various governance committees, chaired the Budget Study Committee and participated in Women in Science Program and the Academic Women's caucus.

Three years of additional training as a post-doctoral fellow under the guidance of Edwin G. Krebs was carried out at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of California at Davis. In August of 1970 I joined the faculty of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I taught one course per year in biochemistry and research efforts concerned the mechanisms that maintain homeostasis in the epidermis. The affects of cyclic nucleotides, eicosanoids, and vitamins A, C, D and E on the maintenance of homeostasis and alter- ations in various dermatological diseases were the areas of concentration. On July 31, 2000, I retired from the University of Michigan but remain active in several programs.
