Candidate's Statement: During the eighteen years I have attended national meetings, I have learned how the system operates and have helped change a few things. Several of my suggestions over the years have been adopted.

Many candidates for Sigma Xi office are not able to appear before us and answer questions at the national meeting. Sometimes they do not even attend the national meeting. My goal as a member of the Committee on Nominations would be to find candidates who can meet with us and therefore presumably have time to work for Sigma Xi.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: A member of Sigma Xi since 1961, National Delegate (permanent) since 1983, chapter secretary since 1983, regional nominating committee several times. Principal chapter advisor for Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society for many years.

Calif., Berkeley, 1964; Professor of Engineering 1967-2000; department chair 1997-2000; Emeritus Professor of Engineering 2000--; published 26 books on computing and engineering; fields of interest are finite-element analysis and explosive-shock synthesis of materials.

Candidate's Statement: The Society is presently facing challenging times. It has been involved in an effort to offer renewed and effective support to its chapters, so that they can grow by addressing the local and regional issues of their members, and at the same time, it has embarked upon the task of broadening its horizons by taking on a much needed global perspective with its ample international membership. This requires dynamic leadership on the part of the Society´s Officers. If elected as a representative of the Southwest Region to the Society´s Committee on Nominations, I would bring forth my experience as an officer in local Chapter activities and the perspective gained as a Regional Director, in order   to insure that the Society can count on Nominees that would guarantee this very much needed leadership.

Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey Club: Treasurer, 1978-84; Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey Club: Secretary, 1985-95; Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey Chapter: President, 1995 -.
