Candidate's Statement: I have been a Sigma XI member since 1992. I have served my Chapter in many different roles. I believe that Science plays a big role in our everyday lives nationally and internationally. I am very much involved in the dissemination of scientific knowledge in our community. I visit high schools, I organize field trips for high school students. For four years I have organized a summer medical microbiology practicum for high school and the high school teachers. The purpose of the program is to improve teachers' science literacy, to encourage scientific inquiry in high school students.
During my presidency, in 1998, our chapter has named the University of Mbujimayi in the Republic Democratic of the Congo as a recipient of the American Scientist. This support continues to the present.
