Candidate's Statement: This Constituency Group is a crucial one as it covers so many types of entities within Sigma Xi that need representation unlike any single chapter or grouping of chapters (e.g., regional representatives). This is so because of the great variety of voices present within the organizations that are included here: these members bring typically different views to the Society than those offered by the academic community alone. Ideas that may not arise from the academy may be central to a Society member in a federal laboratory, say, or in an industry. Such ideas and visions and the direction that could come from them may well be of immense value to the thinking of the leadership of Sigma Xi locally, nationally and internationally. The San Diego Chapter is a geographic one and perforce includes all of the types of institutions covered by this Constitutency Group. We in San Diego have had the opportunity of leadership from and dialog with each of these types of institutions. A vibrant Chapter aware of the needs of all types of members of the Society, we can bring to the table these polyglot visions, this 'hybrid vigor,' that is so much a part of our type of Chapter. I have worked in industry, four federal agencies, NGOs and a number of colleges and universities and have been nurtured in the perfect type of Chapter to best represent the desires, expectations, and hopes of those who are this Constituency Group's members.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Sigma Xi: Associate Director, Southwest Region, 2000-03; Member, Committee on Qualifications & Membership, 01-03; Secretary of San Diego Chapter, 1996-1997; Vice President of San Diego Chapter, 1997-1998; President of San Diego Chapter, 1999-2000. Other: Board Member, Quail Botanical Gardens, Encinitas, CA; President's Advisory Comt, San Diego Zoological Society.
