Candidate's Statement: As Associate Director of the Comprehensive Colleges & Universities Constituency Group, I would foremost support the initiatives of the Director. Since we are a diverse group, hopefully some of those initiatives would include accessing our efforts and sharing the results of what we collectively do in the areas of diverse student and faculty recruitment, retention and promotion, curriculum and program development. By pooling our experience, we can all learn how to maximize our potentials in light of ever limited resources. The dissemination of the information can be achieved by using a select list serve through Sigma Xi Headquarters and/or the production of a timely newsletter.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Member since 1978; Chapter Treasurer, 1993-98; Chapter President, 1998-99; served on numerous committees at the Chapter level; Chair of the Southeast Regional Nominating Committee, 2004; served as Chapter delegate. Candidate's Statement: Furthering the mission of Sigma Xi and recruiting and retaining members requires that we serve the needs of the community of scientists and engineers. Our constituency group must lead in developing programs that enhance Sigma Xi's value for its constituents and that raise Sigma Xi's profile among them. Candidate's Statement: As a woman scientist and member of an academic community for 15 years, I have had the opportunity to mentor students and collaborate with colleagues for the past 15 years at San Francisco State University where I have also had the privilege of serving as the Vice President of our Sigma Xi Chapter since 2001. Service as an Associate Director of the Constituency Group would provide me with a continued opportunity to contribute to this organization. It would be both an honor and privilege to participate in this important position.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: 2001-Present: Vice-President, San Francisco State University Chapter of Sigma Xi. 1983-1995: Member, Alpha Eta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (International Nursing Honor Society). 1996-Present: Charter Member, Nu Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (International Nursing Honor Society); ByLaws Committee Chair (1994-1998); Faculty Advisor (1999).

Biographical Information: Education: DNSc, University of California, San Francisco (1988). Publications: 1 text chapter, co-editorship of a gerontology text in progress, 14 abstracts published in conference proceedings and 2 unpublished program reports. Research: 2 needs assessments, program evaluation assessment, a completed quantitative and qualitative study of nurse practitioner perceptions of evidence-based practice, continuation of the qualitative and quantitative study of nurse practitioner perceptions of evidence-based practice at both national and international levels begun in 2003. Candidate's Statement: As a scientific society, Sigma Xi serves many important functions both for its members and the professional and academic communities. However, the fostering of educational and societal needs of the community is and should also be an important activity. In this respect, my chapter has, for over fifteen years organized the Eastern South Dakota High School Science and Engineering Fair, in which over 400 students now participate annually, and the grand prize winners from which progress to the national competition. To stimulate and reward student research at the University, the chapter annually presents awards to the best MS and PhD proposals and papers, and recognizes faculty accomplishments with a research award. Furthermore, it schedules a number of lectures, including the Distinguished Lecture, for the benefit of society members and the local community. These and similar activities will continue in the future to be the focus of my chapter.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Organizing committee member for the Eastern South Dakota High School Science and Engineering Fair,1995- present; chapter secretary-treasurer, 2002-3, president-elect, 2003-4, president,2004-5; United States Pharmacopeial Convention member, 2002-5; faculty advisor, Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, 2004-; Sigma Xi chapter faculty research award, 2002; Sewrey Faculty Colloquium speaker, 1992; Phi Kappa Phi faculty lectureship award, 2003.

Biographical Information: Dr. Singh was born and raised in Fiji. He received his education in New Zealand (B.S., Biochemistry, University of Otago), Scotland (M.S., Ph.D., Pharmacology, University of Strathclyde), and Canada (Post-doctoral, University of Alberta). He has held faculty appointments at the University of the South Pacific and the Fiji School of Medicine, University of Alberta and, since 1988, at South Dakota State University. He is a member of various professional and scientific societies, including ASPET, AACP, AAAS, International Society on Toxinology, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, Rho Chi, and British Pharmacological Society. He has published over 75 papers in peer reviewed journals and book chapters on skeletal muscle function, more recently on the role of thyroid hormones in dystrophic hamsters, pharmacotherapy in mental retardation, and complementary and alternative medicine. He has had a long standing interest in the South Pacific herb kava, the subject of his recent book published by CRC Press.
