Candidate's Statement: The duty of the Committee on Nominations is described simply in the by-laws: [To] present nominations to the Assembly of Delegates for the [President-elect and Treasurer]. That task, however, is a heavy responsibility. Our society is increasingly dependent on Science, and increasingly looking to leaders in science for guidance. Many of those leaders are found in the ranks if Sigma Xi, and the Society itself has an important role to play in interpreting and evaluating the role of science in society. Choosing a leader of leaders is no small task, and must involve all sectors of the Society. If elected, I will work with vigour to find candidates whose vision, vitality, and reputation will enable them to continue in the footsteps of our past presidents, and build a strong, relevant, and effective Society.

Candidate's Statement: It is very important for the continued growth of Sigma Xi that the Society nominates and elect Presidents who have strong leadership traits and who have not only made important contributions to Science, but who can also handle the issues related with the Public's understanding of Science, as well as its International consolidation. If Sigma Xi is to be truly "The Scientific Research Society" within today's global world, it should do its best to earnestly reach out and involve the participation of not only its present international members, but also of all the deserving Scientists who contribute to its endeavor on a daily basis. Candidate's Statement: When I attended the 2002 Annual Meeting of Sigma Xi in Galveston, I discovered that one of the main problems facing Sigma Xi today is declining membership. To attract membership from outside of the United States, I believe that Sigma Xi must recognize the unique concerns of chapters in the Canadian/ International Constituency Group. If I am elected as your representative on the Committee on Nominations, I will select candidates who will provide outstanding leadership, who will be aware of and willing to address our existing issues, and who, with the advice of Canadian/ International Constituency Group chapters, will help to develop programs that will attract more Canadian and international membership and participation.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Sigma Xi: Member, University of Toronto Chapter, 1995 - present; Treasurer and Secretary, 1997 - 2002; President, 2002 - 2004; and Annual Meeting Delegate, 2002. Other: Index Committee, American Society of Mammalogists (1991 - 2001).
