Candidate's Statement: I became a scientist around age 3. It became official in 1969, with a Ph.D in physics from the University of New Mexico. Though I never stopped being a physicist, I made my living elsewhere. I am now free to explore science for sheer enjoyment. For me the best part of Sigma Xi is its greatest strength: its multidisciplinary approach. My focus as a member of the nominating committee would be in promoting this strength, and in bringing the excitement of science to people like I was, living outside research. I bring to Sigma Xi my experience in operating a small business in the "real world."

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Treasurer of University of New Mexico Chapter of Sigma Xi, active in organization of "Science and Society Series" public lectures. President of Placitas Artists Series, an all-volunteer presenter of chamber and other music programs and visual arts shows in a small rural community.

Biographical Information: Born 7/12/1942 in Buffalo, NY, moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1947. I attended public schools in Albuquerque, and received BS in physics and math, MS and Ph.D. in physics from University of New Mexico. From 1971 through 1993, I co-owned and operated ALL-COMM, Inc., a two-way radio communications business in Albuquerque, where I was responsible for management, accounting, radio repair, and maintenance of mountaintop communications facilities and towers. Retired from business in 1993 and widowed in 1996, I live with a lot of animals in rural New Mexico and regularly herd grandchildren. I currently own Orion Research, which consults on radio interference management at mountaintop communications facilities and (finally!) engages in research in astrophysics.
