Candidate's Statement: My experience as a delegate to the national meetings as well as my leadership of The Claremont Colleges Chapter of Sigma Xi have prepared me to increase my involvement in Sigma Xi as Director of the Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency Group. Our constituency serves a small but active group within Sigma Xi that initiates the most new members to the organization. As the Director of the Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency Group, I plan to continue the strong leadership we have enjoyed for the last six years under Sue Ann Miller. In addition to making the organization aware of the contributions from our group, I hope to facilitate interactions between our constituency and others who can help us and the undergraduate students we mentor. I have participated in Sigma Xi at both the local and national levels, serving on committees and as a judge at the annual student research conference, and am confident that I will be able to serve effectively as the primary liaison between the Board of Sigma Xi and the chapters in our constituency group. If elected, I will commit myself to doing the best job possible to represent the Baccalaureate Constituency Group while keeping in mind the interests of the entire organization.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: I am serving on the Committee on Nominations as the Baccalaureate Constituency Group representative (2005-2008) and have served on nominating committees in both the Baccalaureate Constituency Group and in the Southwest Region. Additional service: Past President of The Claremont Colleges Chapter (2002); Vice-President (2001). Delegate to Sigma Xi Annual Meeting, 2002-2004. Member, Committee on Meetings, 2004-2005. Recording secretary in Southwest regional Group 2003, 2004. Women in Science Advisor at Scripps College; Irvine Diversity Fellow, 2004-2005, Pitzer College; Chair, Institutional Review Board, Scripps College.; Community outreach includes bringing grade school students to my lab to isolate DNA, speaking to community groups on molecular biology and the human genome project. Participant in "Germany Today, 2002: The New Politics of Life Sciences in Germany and in Europe" Reviewer, Bios, 1999-present. Review article submissions for the undergraduate scientific research journal.

Candidate's Statement: I have been an active member of Sigma Xi since 1995 and have learned the importance of being a member of Sigma Xi. This will be my sixth annual Sigma Xi meeting and I would like the opportunity to start serving Sigma Xi in a more active manner. Sigma Xi has been an extremely positive influence on the faculty and students of Grove City College and has provided a means for the various departments to interact on a scientific level. I have found that my membership in Sigma Xi has provided me with a unique opportunity to engage in conversations with faculty outside my particular area. This interaction has not only helped my professional career but it has also provided opportunities for the students at Grove City College. If elected as the Director of the Baccalaureate Colleges I would like to promote various types of funding focused towards the advancement of research at our colleges.

Candidate's Statement: A significant research experience is an important part of the transition from undergraduate student to professional scientist. However, I believe that the unique needs of the Baccalaureate Colleges are often not fully appreciated by funding agencies and by many colleagues at larger institutions. An important role of the Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency Group within Sigma Xi is to continually remind others of the challenges we face in trying to combine high quality teaching with active undergraduate research programs, with the goal of identifying ways by which we may work together. As director of your Constituency Group, I would happily assume the responsibility of bringing your interests and concerns to the Board of Directors with the goal of strengthening the research component of the undergraduate curriculum.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Dave Lever served as president of the Ohio Wesleyan University chapter for the 2002-2003 academic year, as well as the three year period from fall 1998-spring 2001, and represented the chapter as a delegate to the National Meeting in 2004, 2003, 2002, and 1999. He was elected Associate Director of the Constituency Group in 2003 and currently serves in that capacity. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Candidate's Statement: Undergraduate research can be a valuable part of science education. I have been mentor to numerous undergraduates since coming to Purchase, since a two-semester project is required of all seniors. I have seen how the research experience pulls together their undergraduate education, contributes to their maturity and their decision-making about their future, and helps to persuade employers or graduate admissions committees to accept them. Sigma Xi is strongly supportive of such educational opportunities, and for that, I have been pleased to be an active member. Meetings of the Sigma Xi Baccalauareate Constituency Group at the annual meeting have been invaluable to me, providing a forum for exchange of ideas and allowing me to meet others from a similar educational environment. I would like the opportunity to serve this group as director, to represent the baccalaureate colleges' point of view in directors' meetings and to work with even more of you while in that role.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Sigma Xi member (1996- ), SUNY at Purchase Chapter, treasurer (2002- ), Delegate to Annual Meeting (1999, 2002, 2003, 2004), Credentials Committee (2003).
