Candidate's Statement: My experience as a delegate to the national meetings as well as my leadership of The Claremont Colleges Chapter of Sigma Xi have prepared me to increase my involvement in Sigma Xi as Associate Director of the Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency Group. Our constituency serves a small but active group within Sigma Xi that initiates the most new members to the organization. As the Associate Director of the Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency Group, I would help the Director in whatever way I can. In addition to making the organization aware of the contributions from our group, I hope to facilitate interactions between our constituency and others who can help us and the undergraduate students we mentor. I have participated in Sigma Xi at both the local and national levels, serving on committees and as a judge at the annual student research conference, and am confident that I will be able to serve effectively as Associate Director. If elected, I will commit myself to doing the best job possible to represent the Baccalaureate Constituency Group while keeping in mind the interests of the entire organization.
Sigma Xi and Other Activities: I am serving on the Committee on Nominations as the Baccalaureate Constituency Group representative (2005-2008) and have served on nominating committees in both the Baccalaureate Constituency Group and in the Southwest Region. Additional service: Past President of The Claremont Colleges Chapter (2002); Vice-President (2001). Delegate to Sigma Xi Annual Meeting, 2002-2004. Member, Committee on Meetings, 2004-2005. Candidate's Statement: Undergraduate research can be a valuable part of science education. I have been mentor to numerous undergraduates since coming to Purchase, since a two-semester project is required of all seniors. I have seen how the research experience pulls together their undergraduate education, contributes to their maturity and their decision-making about their future, and helps to persuade employers or graduate admissions committees to accept them. Sigma Xi is strongly supportive of such educational opportunities, and for that, I have been pleased to be an active member. Meetings of the Sigma Xi Baccalauareate Constituency Group at the annual meeting have been invaluable to me, providing a forum for exchange of ideas and allowing me to meet others from a similar educational environment. I would like the opportunity to serve this group as director, to represent the baccalaureate colleges' point of view in directors' meetings and to work with even more of you while in that role.

I have attended two annual Sigma Xi meetings as a delegate and found the Baccalaureate Colleges Constituency Group Programs very worthwhile. My choice to teach at a research college was based on my very positive research experience with undergraduates during my postdoctoral position at the University of California in Santa Cruz.
