Candidate's Statement: I've enjoyed serving in many capacities at the local, regional and national levels during the last 12 years. Locally, I've held every chapter position except treasurer several times over. I've served on a few regional nominating committees and served on the Search Committee for the Executive Director during a term as North Central Regional Director. Since 2004, I've been a member of the Sigma Xi Committee on Nominations, and was committee chair this past year. My institution, the University of Northern Iowa, is one of many comprehensive universities in the US. I understand the stresses and challenges of science education and scientific research in this type of environment. Comprehensives also have distinct strengths, often related to their locations and regions. Our challenge is to find how Sigma Xi can best promote chapter interests at our colleges and universities. I think that we, the comprehensive colleges and universities, are a group with greater common ground than some other groups in the society. I will bring a sense of humor coupled to a perspective that is both aware of current local concerns and the resources of an international organization to help chapters.
