Candidate's Statement: I am continually grateful to be associated with Sigma Xi and I am always delighted by the companionship I find in this multidisciplinary society. I have met fascinating people that I am sure I would never have come in contact with were it not for Sigma Xi. Because I believe in the Society, I give of my time freely to support its efforts. I have served as a chapter officer, as a member of the Committee on Qualifications and Membership, and currently serve on the Committee on Nominations and the Committee on Strategic Planning. I have enjoyed serving as a judge for the student poster session and as a general resource for Sigma Xi staff whenever they think I can be of service. I am a regular attendee at the annual meeting, and have been an active and vocal member of both my region and my constituency group. I am now asking for your support to serve our constituency group and the Society as a member of the Board. I believe I have a unique perspective to offer because of my unusual career path that includes both academic research and management at a national laboratory. I have the energy and enthusiasm it takes to be a valuable member of the Board.
Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Kelly has been a member of Sigma Xi since 1996. She served as the Omaha Chapter's Secretary/Treasurer, then Vice-President, and briefly as President before moving to the Tri-Cities. Candidate's Statement: "Why Sigma Xi?". When I approach colleagues about joining the society, they want to know why membership in Sigma Xi matters. Sigma Xi is relevant because it is the only chapter-based interdisciplinary honor society for ALL areas of science, technology, mathematics, and engineering; the success of the society depends, in large part, on the success of the local chapters. Through the efforts of dedicated individuals at both the local and national level, progress in chapter vitality has been made--new chapters have been chartered, and other chapters have been re-vitalized. However, some chapters remain "flat" and others continue to decline. While I have been able to serve my local chapters in various officer positions, I wish to do more for the society. If elected to the office of Director for the MI constituency group, I will encourage dialogue and foster connections and collaborations between the variety of chapters in our group in order to increase the impact and vitality of the chapters.
