Candidates Statment: I am the present representative of the Southeast Region on the Committee on Nominations. I was selected to finish out the term of Ann Williams who was elected to the Society Board of Directors. The nominations committee is responsible for selecting nominees for the office of President and Treasurer in appropriate years. If selected to a full term, I will continue to work with other members of the committee to nominate distinguished research scholars for consideration by the membership for these important positions. I am interested in and will welcome suggestions of potential nominees from members of the Southeast Region, since I do not know all the distinguished scholars in our region in the many fields of scientific research.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Member of Sigma Xi and the Louisiana State University Chapter since 1976; Chair of the chapter's student grant-in-aid committee 1997 - 2001; Chapter Treasurer 2001 - 2003; Vice President 2003; President 2003 - 2004; Past President 2004 - 2005, Southeast Geographic Region Representative - Sigma Xi's Committee on Nominations 2006.

Biographical Information: B.S. - Physics, Loyola University, New Orleans, 1964; Ph.D. - Physics, Louisiana State University, 1972; Faculty, Coastal Studies Institute and Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University, 1972 to Present; Director, Coastal Marine Institute, Louisiana State University, 1998 to Present; Chair, Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University, 2003 to 2006; Board of Directors, Iberville Parish (county) Chamber of Commerce, 2004 to Present; Board of Directors, Eastside Community Health Center (a rural health clinic servicing primarily low income residents), 2004 to Present. My present research interests are in circulation within estuaries, flow along inner continental shelves, and the exchange between these two regions. As part of these circulation processes, I am interested in the sources, pathways, and fates of material, particularly sediment, transported by the water. My research is generally multidisciplinary, cooperating with other scientists who have expertise in such fields as wetlands ecology, nutrient cycling, ichthyoplankton, numerical modeling, and coastal geomorphic processes.
