Candidate's Statement: Ever since I became a member 50 years ago, my career has been devoted to supporting the scientific research enterprise. I will continue this as your Associate Director. As a Branch Chief at the Air Force Research Laboratory, I managed both in-house research programs and contractual research and development with industry and universities.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: I have been an active member of the Hanscom Chapter of Sigma Xi and its President from 2002 to 2007. I was its delegate to the Sigma Xi Annual Meeting in 2002, 03, 06, and 2007.

Biographical Information: Paul H. Carr, B.S., M.S., MIT; Ph.D. Physics, Brandeis U., led a branch investigating microwave ultrasonic surface acoustic waves (SAW) and superconductors at the AF Research Laboratory,Hanscom AFB, Bedford, MA. His 80 scientific papers and 10 patents have contributed to new components for radar, TV, and cell phones. He received a grant form the John Templeton Foundation for his philosophy course Science and Religion: Cosmos to Consciousness at U Mass Lowell. This gave birth to his book, Beauty in Science and Spirit. His web page is www.MirrorOfNature.org.

Candidate's Statement: I was nominated to the DC Chapter and made VP of the chapter all in the same evening. Since that night I have strived to maintain that same momentum by becoming more involved in the society. I believe I can bring a fresh outlook and ideas to the position of associate director MI. As President of the DC Chapter I have gained the experience of uniting and interacting with a very large and diverse chapter which mirrors the needs for the MI constituency as a whole.

Biographical Information: Cristina obtained both her BS and MS in Horticultural research from the University of Maryland. She has worked in horticultural laboratories since 1983 and in her current position as Citrus Quarantine manager since 1991. Her research has centered on pathogens of citrus, strawberries and grape. The lab centers on cooperative research involving state, federal and foreign laboratories.
