Candidate's Statement: I would like to be considered to serve as a Representative on the Committee on Nominations. Although I am a relatively new member of Sigma Xi, I received financial support from the Society for my Master's Thesis research. I am very interested in increasing my involvement in the decision making process of the society.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: I currently am a member of the South Florida Water Management Chapter of Sigma Xi and have recently been elected President of the Chapter.

Biographical Information: Currently I serve as a Senior Supervising Environmental Scientist for the South Florida Water Management District, overseeing the Everglades Division (ED) Section called Landscape Analysis, Mapping, and Data Automation (LAMDA). Our section provides support services to the research sections of the ED and includes photo-interpreters, a geographer (Geographic Information Systems-GIS specialist), scientists, and a data steward. My work efforts and interests for the last twenty-plus years have been in the development and implementation of ecological monitoring programs. In addition I have been involved in the development of technologies for controlled biological life support systems for space, and mentoring programs (for NASA in my former position). My ultimate career goal is to utilize my abilities and experience in ecology, management, and mentoring to support the ecological preservation and restoration of the Everglades. This will be accomplished by sustaining pertinent research, data collection, and modeling. In addition, I believe that it is critical that we begin mentoring future decision-makers, scientists, and engineers as this is a process that will require the dedication of several generations.
