Candidate's Statement: I am a strong believer in the importance of Sigma Xi for the future of science in this country. Because of its wide membership base, Sigma Xi has the potential of being one of the most influential scientific societies nationally and internationally, with important roles in the acknowledgement of accomplishments of engineers and scientists, and in helping non-scientists understand the importance of scientific discoveries for the improvement of the human condition. If elected to serve on the nominating committee, my recommendations for the next leadership team will be guided by my belief in the value of these important roles.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Since arriving at the University of Michigan, I have served on the UM Council for eleven of the past twenty years. I have been secretary and president on more than one occasion and have worked hard to make members feel that they are part of a relevant and vibrant society.

Biographical Information: I am proud to have been elected as an associate member while a graduate student in physiological psychology (now neuropsychology) at McGill University in Montreal Canada. My mentors in the Psychology Department were leaders in the local chapter and I had many opportunities to see them playing an active role in the activities of the chapter. I spent the next nine years in research laboratories in Italy and England and during that period I was affiliated with the International Chapter. I returned to Canada for two years (where I was elected to full membership) and then returned to the US to take up my current position as neuropsychologist in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Michigan. My research has been in both basic and applied fields of neuropsychology concerned with normal and abnormal brain function.
