Candidate's Statement: The grassroots theme of Sigma Xi makes it unique among professional organizations. This provides each chapter the opportunity to serve members and community and respond to specific needs. For example, our Colorado School of Mines Chapter has helped to fund a Tech Camp for disadvantaged middle school students for the last three years. This popular program has grown and instilled a curiosity for science among many young people in our large metropolitan area. Sharing ideas among the chapters that are separated by great geographic distance in the Northwest Region is one of my main interests. Communication through the internet will be key to this process.

Sigma Xi and Other Activities: Dr. Skokan has been an active member of the Sigma Xi Chapter at the Colorado School of Mines since her induction in 1978. She has served in the past as program chair and president. She currently is the treasurer for the chapter. She has also served as Associate Director for the Northwest Region. She is also active in the Engineering and Environmental Geophysics Society and the American Association for Engineering Education.
